What the procedure involves.
Experience authentic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at its source, in hospitals and clinics with centuries of heritage. China offers comprehensive TCM programs combining acupuncture, herbal medicine, tuina therapeutic massage, cupping, moxibustion, and tai chi for conditions including chronic pain, digestive disorders, stress, insomnia, and rehabilitation. Chengdu, Beijing, and Guangzhou are top destinations for TCM medical tourism, with programs ranging from single consultations to multi-week residential wellness retreats.
Step by step.
TCM Diagnostic Consultation
A licensed TCM practitioner performs a comprehensive assessment using the four diagnostic methods: observation (wang), auscultation and olfaction (wen), inquiry (wen), and palpation including tongue and pulse diagnosis (qie). This holistic evaluation identifies patterns of disharmony according to TCM theory.
Personalized Treatment Plan
Based on the diagnosis, the practitioner creates an individualized treatment plan that may include acupuncture, custom herbal formulas, tuina massage, cupping, moxibustion, dietary therapy, and qigong exercises. The plan is explained in detail with translated documentation.
Acupuncture & Physical Therapies
Treatments begin with acupuncture sessions targeting specific meridian points, often combined with cupping therapy to improve circulation and moxibustion to warm and invigorate energy flow. Electro-acupuncture may be used for pain management. Sessions are typically daily or every other day.
Herbal Medicine & Dietary Guidance
Custom herbal formulas are prepared at the hospital pharmacy, either as traditional decoctions, concentrated granules, or pills for convenience. The practitioner provides detailed dietary recommendations based on TCM food therapy principles to support the treatment.
Progress Review & Home Program
At the end of the treatment course, the practitioner reviews progress, adjusts the herbal formula if needed, and provides a home maintenance program including herbal prescriptions, exercise recommendations (tai chi, qigong), dietary guidelines, and acupressure self-care techniques that can be continued at home.

Came for a 3-week TCM program for chronic fatigue and back pain. The combination of acupuncture, herbal medicine, and cupping was remarkable. After years of painkillers, I finally found something that works long-term. The hospital campus near West Lake is peaceful and healing.

Authentic TCM experience in one of China's most historic TCM hospitals. Two weeks of treatment for chronic digestive issues. The herbal prescriptions were carefully customized. Budget-friendly city with amazing food. Language was a challenge but the young doctors tried hard to communicate.
